This is a mod post. This is a post that is serious business on a blog that is about making fun of terrible people with terrible policies and, now that this has happened I think I can say with some certainty, terrible hearts.
At this very moment Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is reportedly clinging to life after being brought back to it. Sarah Palin, while Giffords is in surgery, thought it pertinent to set someone to work cleaning up her facebook page.
But blood stains, dammit.
This picture cannot leave the internet, even though it will probably never grace the television. This picture needs to circulate, and be passed around, and never leave the minds of anyone who actually cares about people more than politics.
This picture, Giffords’ opponent’s commitment to gunplay, the notion that “if ballots don’t work, bullets will”, and Sharron Angle’s pernicious suggestion that we employ “Second Amendment remedies” need to be revealed as what they are - threats, contributions to a dangerous culture, and ultimately, responsibility for the actual deaths of (or injuries) of politicians (and children, and staffers!).
Don’t let this go away. Hold these people accountable. This is a blog about jokes, but this isn’t a fucking joke anymore. This is serious, and it deserves our attention and our dissent. Now more than ever.
